Union Project has a wood kiln.
It is located at Laurelville Mennonite Church Center in Mt. Pleasant, PA. The wood kiln is a programmatic partnership between Union Project and Laurelville Mennonite Church Center. The kiln is managed by the ceramics staff and co-op members of Union Project. Firings are scheduled 4-6 times a year. Shares can be purchased by contacting clayunionproject.org or calling 412-363-4550 ext. 22.
Kiln is approximately 65 cubic feet.
$125 Per share PLUS 32 hours of labor assistance in loading/firing/unloading A share is: approximately 12 cubic feet of kiln space (3 ft wide x 4 ft long x 1 foot tall), plus access to Union Project wood fired slips and glazes. 4 full shares are available for purchase. 4 Minishares are available as well. A minishare costs $25 plus 12 hours of labor, and gives approximately 1 cubic foot of stacking space, or the number of pots that fit in 2 standard clay boxes. If you make pots that generally fall within standard post sizes (4 1/2" or 9"), you have a better chance of getting more things in. Also, larger open bowls, plates, etc. have a harder time getting in as they are more difficult to stack. Tall or narrow pots work well in many places. Very large pots get loaded only if space permits. All wood, wadding, and firing materials are provided by Union Project. Management of firing by Union Project staff and co-op members. Shares are sold out early. Advanced registration is strongly encouraged. |
